This is the first symphonic composition of mine. My intention was to depict some comic, playful sequence of events with some dramatic tension intervening in the middle. I am a great Falstaff-fan, so the "merry wives" referred to in the title are, of course, those of Windsor. The orchestration follows the standard classical setup with cymbals and triangle added.
