Here's The bar
Here's the bar, there's the stool
Where he'd order up a cold one
While trying hard to drown her memory
He'd sit up there 'till closing time
With teary eyes and a troubled mind
Praying to the Lord for sympathy
That's the floor, where they danced
Where they held each other closely
Long before they ever knew the danger
The young in love ignored the signs
one fragile night in lonely pride
she stumbled in the arms of a stranger
On that stage, played the band
singing all the sad songs
starting with "He stopped loving her today"
If you stand beside the open door
You might hear the echo
Of the moment his whole world was swept away
There's his stone, by the hill
Where he's laid to rest forever
His worried mind is finally at peace
And I'm sure he's there up in heaven
Watching over Mary Ellen
The girl who brought this poor man to his knees
Here's the bar...
