Artist picture
Singer/Songwriter in the tradition of classic country artists. A little humor and a whole lot of heart.
I've been writing songs since 1974. Over the past few years, I've participated in open mic's whenever possible and have become active in the Nashville Songwriters Association International ("NSAI").

Story behind the song
I was actually trying to tell my (then) girlfriend about the Gatlin Brothers song "Love Of A Lifetime" and it came out backwards (I'll take the fifth as to why). Ran to the desk and started writing!
Lyrics
LIFE OF A LOVETIME 1ST VERSE: Standing before you I look in your eyes Searching for something I need The question is just where the answer lies Is it somewhere between you and me? 2ND VERSE: Holding you close in my arms every night Knowing the pleasure you bring I still can't resolve whether it's wrong or right But I can tell you this one thing CHORUS: You'll always be a favorite memory of mine Should we ever see the life of a lovetime 3RD VERSE: I'd rather be truthful than tell you a lie Which would you rather believe? The fact is we all have an alibi For the times that we choose to deceive 4TH VERSE: To promise forever would only be wrong Knowing as I do my heart Despite the insistence of feelings so strong I could never be sure of my part CHORUS: BRIDGE: Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to tell you goodbye But as we go along We'd be foolish were we to deny The odds are against us And many a good love has died Simply died Still it's best to have loved and have lost Than to never have tried CHORUS: ©John Tolley All Rights Reserved
