Story behind the song
All I remember is that this free style lyrical sensation came over me one night in the car after a long jam session with my dear friend Andy Adair. I felt this groove and ran with it. The phrase soul in my eyes came from my dad who had reminded me on many occassions growing up that the eyes are the window to the soul.
Lyrics
Soul in My Eyez Take another look in my eyes – I feel the fire, my desire starting to come alive. Don’t come at me in disguise – This ain’t Halloween, no wicked dream, no baby this is real life. So take another look in my eyes – I feel it’s high time, right rhyme, simply sublime. Take another look in my eyes. [Flow chorus] We’re sitting on gold mine, been sippin’ from that old wine And now I can see what is true though at once I was blind I stopped pretending to be something that I’m not Cause when this game is over, I’ll be sure that I have called the right shots It’s hot now, don’t you stop til you drop It’s taken until now for me to see that they’re not all dirty cops You know I used to call my mama’s daddy Pops But now they’re both in heaven, singing the glory, giving God all his props Take another look in my eyes The soul in my eyes, soul in my eyes, soul in my eyes, all I need is one time [Flow Chorus] We’re sittin’ on a cornflake, waiting for the daybreak Watch me levitate to a state make you want to relate What will you say when you step up to heaven’s gate Before you get to speaking you be sure that you don’t hesitate, now Don’t be late, don’t be chasing after fate We daily celebrate and I can’t wait to taste a piece of this cake Please understand you’re so much more than a mistake You’re fearfully created in the image of the Maker our great God. Take another look in my eyes Soul in my eyes (repeat)
