Story behind the song
This song started out with a slightly different angle and morphed into what it is now over a series of re-writes and critiques. An aside: I don't really believe our destiny is controlled by some kind of cosmic whim. I trust that God is ultimately in control of everything...but that's a different song.
Lyrics
Livin’ and Dyin’ Susan Cantey 2006 The house was destroyed, but the family saved, That’s what the man on the news said, The hero of the day was a five year old child, Who got his mother out of bed before the fire spread… Every little change, a few feet, a few inches, Even two minutes makes a big difference, Seems to me that destiny Draws a fine line between livin’ and dyin’ Gangs downtown are out of control, Seems the whole city’s on edge, Last night a bullet missed its mark And hit a driver at the light instead… Every little change, a few feet, a few inches, Even two minutes makes a big difference, Seems to me that destiny Draws a fine line between livin’ and dyin’ If we’d kissed a little longer; if you’d spent the night, You’d have reached that corner at a different time, You’d still be mine. Every little change, a few feet, a few inches, Even two minutes makes a big difference, Seems to me that destiny Draws a fine line between livin’ and dyin’ There’s a fine line between livin’ and dyin’.
