Bands start for many reasons: girls, drugs, free booze. Subjective Well Being merely wanted Pop Tarts.
Hi. We were Subjective Well Being, a three piece rock band from Hot Springs Village, AR. Even though we are no longer active, we are leaving this page up so that if anyone ever come across these tunes, they can still take a listen. We still check back here every once and awhile, so leave us a comment or a note and tell us what you think. Thanks for ten years of rock and roll!

Story behind the song
BEN: Russ and I were always concept guys. If "Ghosts" was about being haunted, and in my head it was, then "Radio" was just as clearly defined: it was a record about us taking back the airwaves, at least in our own head. Russ brought this song in pretty fully formed. He played it for us and there wasn't a lot that Taylor and i could bring to it because it sounded so good in it's state. As per usual I think Taylor brings it hard on the drums, but I think that my bass part is in a far to high register. I was listening to a lot of the Cure at the time and was digging Simon Gallup's bass tone, but it also gives this song no low end, which I think would have made it an even better song. That's my fault. Regardless I think this is a helluva rock song. RUSS: I came up with the initial guitar stuff for this because I was really wanting to write something that sounded like Gang of Four styl INVALID post-punk mixed with a Ska styl INVALID chord arrangement. The song totally came together after we had practiced it the first time. Lyrically I was in a phase where everything I was writing ended up being about things I hated in society. This one in particular points out lifestyl INVALID obsession, unquestioning allegiance in a war-time scenario, and the way that most forms of popular media perpetuate the necessity of both.
Lyrics
You want it? You got it! I see you shuffling your feet Come on kids, Dig that fascist beat I do not pledge allegiance to a government or state That wants to send me overseas so I can die In the gutter of some nameless foreign street The assholes are on T.V. tonight Radio america rules the airwaves Transmissions break on the dead lines Radio america dies tonight Just as many politicians in the peer group As in the washington scene Youth marching in one line Sucking off those old hand-me-down dreams Self-appointed judges On record, television and press Selling us the guidelines Of living for success Give me hope through church and state Here's a mental abortion for the socially raped I've got a right-wing, left-wing, moral majority A republican, democrat, religious authority
