This is a song about how stupid it is to expect a real girl (even an actress) to live up to an image on a movie screen.
holleycarbines holly carb
The holleycarbines play their high energy emo-Americana guitar rock as if their lives depended on it ... If a broken-hearted Tom Petty fronted the All-American
Here's our bio from the press kit: Heartfelt lyrics, loud guitars, and tons of hooks. These things always make for great rock music. But the holleycarbines add one more ingredient to the mix, and that's what makes them unique. “It’s that sound you here in great old songs by guys like Buddy Holly,” says vocalist/guitarist Matthew Pettus. “I guess you could call it twang. What we’ve done is to blend that sound with modern rock.” The holleycarbines have been playing their unique brand of Americana guitar-based pop/rock at festivals and university gigs, etc. for a few years now. Recent shows have included Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville and Faulkner University in Montgomery. The band has earned quite a reputation for high-energy sweat-drenched performances. “We give you everything we have when you come to a holleycarbines show,” says guitarist Jay Skipworth. “I think that’s why some people want to label us as emo,” says bassist Shannon Partrick. “It’s the energy and emotion that we play with, not that we sound that much like the Get Up Kids or anything (although we do love bands like that.).” The holleycarbines’ songs are definitely emotional. The lyrical content is often alarmingly painful. But the musicfeaturing a driving mix of electric and acoustic guitarsis music you want to blast out of your car windows screaming down the freeway on a summer day. The band has released a full-length CD entitled Glide Down Over Earth, which is available for preview and purchase on CDBaby.com. In fact, the CD was named a CDBaby’s Editor’s Pick for the Power Pop and Americana genres and copies of the CD have been ordered by customer’s from all over the US as well as Great Britain, Spain, Italy, Germany, and Japan. With a unique, yet accessible sound and a killer live show, the holleycarbines are rapidly making a name for themselves on the national scene.

Story behind the song
We have not yet been sued by Winona Ryder. :) Actually, I think she'd dig this song if only she heard it. Are you out there, Winona?
Lyrics
Friday night, December 17, 1993 ... Spent two whole years to get that date, But I didn't give her a second look. Spent $15 and we walked inside. We got a seat in the front row. The screen lit up and I realized That this could not go on. And sometimes I wish I never saw you. Winona Rider I wrote this song about you. After six years of college, It's a different world. So I finally gave in. I sold my guitar and I bought her a ring, But that's when you did me in. Because as I slipped it on her finger And as I stared into her eyes. The only thought that crossed my mind Was they're not brown like yours. And sometimes I wish I never saw you. Winona Rider I wrote this song about you. And someday, I'll leave her standing at the altar. In her mama's wedding gown. I'll blame this all on you. I guess it wasn't such a good idea To show up at your premiere. Because you didn't even notice My brand new suit And all these wasted years. And sometimes I wish I never met you. Winona Rider I wrote this song about you. And someday, I'll leave her standing at the altar. In her mama's wedding gown. I'll blame this all on you.
