Written for my mother in her declining years when she felt she no longer had a purpose in life and was constantly bothered with physical pain.
Singer, guitarist and songwriter of Contemporary Christian and Jazz influenced Christian Rock songs.
A former lead guitarist / lead vocalist in cover groups; I left music completely for a time. Now recording my own songs for a Contemporary Christian CD project.
Story behind the song
Several years back, my mother became very ill and nearly died; it was obvious to everyone, including my mother, that she was no longer capable of living on her own. After about a week in the hospital, she entered a nursing home. She spent the next few years in nursing home and assisted living care until she passed on to Heaven last Spring. I wrote this when she first entered the nursing home to reassure her that she still had a purpose and that she was loved by her family.
Lyrics
V1:
How was your day? Not good I see.
So I'll sit and listen for a while.
We'll reminisce, and I'll pray with you,
and I'll do my best to see you smile.
Chorus:
I see your fading, it's been hard I know.
Cuz, your bodies failing you, and you're letting go.
But there's still a purpose here,
there's still love to show to you, as you fade.
V2:
Old photographs, stir memories;
we talk of when I was a child.
how through childhood fears, you prayed with me;
and I see that memory brings a smile.
Bridge:
May He grant you peace, and for your pain relief.
And in His time, take you home to Heaven.
