Soloist. Songwriter/singer. ASCAP member. A NICE WITNESS FOR CHRIST There is an extensive interview of me done by Scott Crawford, at . Do not let the site name alarm you. It is an "adult-themed music and entertainment" site. It is not a porn site, and you will not get tagged for spam if you go there. Scott is a journalist of integrity, who asked pertinent and penetrating questions, then printed my answers verbatim. Both God and His son received much attention in the interview. REVIEWS: "Fancy keyboard playing is the backdrop for this positive and upbeat collection. Hackley's vocals are reminiscent of Burl Ives." Review by Brent Castillo, The Wichita Eagle, March 5, 2005. "world's wimpiest Christian rocker". Brother Russell Podcast; : INFLUENCES (a very lengthy list, ending with...) "and of course, Richard Hackley." "Yet the songs on the Worst of the Worst can be compelling in their awfulness. Songs like Richard Hackley's rabble-rousing, hackles-raising spiritual God's Backhand ("We're not talking about tennis or Ping-Pong!") "; "Richard Hackley... HUGE musical influence. And a real bad mofo live.";

Story behind the song
The lyrics were written in March, 2003, then set aside and forgotten until December, 2006, when I found them again. Subject regards the "upgrading" that comes with the new birth. (inspired initially by 2 Cor 5:17-21. See also Romans 8:18)
Lyrics
THESIS: There was a man w/a high-dollar home More than he could normally buy If you asked him how he got it, “Trading up,” was his reply. When you’re at the right place at the right time There’s a profit that you can turn When someone is willing to give you more Than you give in return. And it sounds so much like the new birth Trading all that is corrupt For holy spirit, for eternal life, The ultimate in trading up. But God is not the loser 'Though we brought nothing to the table He knows He gets in return One more child, strong and able. PRESENT TRADES: We’ve traded in our aimlessness And wandering in the night For purpose and for clarity, For constant daylight. We’ve traded in our fantasies The world loves to produce For un-distracted focus On one source of truth. We’ve traded in our slavery That came with Adam’s fall For the freedom to live That Christ won for us all. We’ve traded in our uselessness On a path the world has made For a mission useful to God Helping others make the trade. FUTURE TRADES: The pressures of this present time Will soon give way to rest In our final trade with God Trading good ... for best. And talk about your expensive home, The one that you could never afford, How ‘bout the one you acquired in heaven Trading up with the Lord?
