Story behind the song
It's a spin off from the joke about the guy who got pulled over for speeding and he says to the officer that the reason he was speeding is because his wife ran off with a hwy patrolman and he thought he was bringin' her back.
Lyrics
“Bringin’ Her Back” Written by Terry Dennis I was barreling down a backroad, not a worry on my mind When out of the blue, blue lights came up flashing from behind So I pulled over, with a hundred excuses running thru my head When he walked up to my window, this is what he said Hey, what’s the hurry, son where’s the fire I clocked you back there running over a hundred miles per hour I said I know sir and I’m sorry but you gave me a heart attack You see my wife ran off with a state trooper and I thought he was bringing her back When he let me go, I eased it down to my favorite watering hole Along around my fourth round, guess who walked thru the door So I made my getaway but when I came in the next day to pay my tab, this is what the bartender had to say Hey , what’s the hurry, son where’s the fire Last night you ran out of here at a hundred miles per hour I said I know Joe and I’m sorry, I didn’t have time to chat You see, my wife walked in with her new man and I thought he was bringing her back I polished off my longneck to begin my short drive home When deputy dog came in behind me, I sensed something was wrong Sure enough in my rear view I saw my wife and she held her bags You should’ve heard that deputy hollering as I stepped down on the gas Hey, what’s the hurry, son where’s the fire Come back here you sonuva gun, I’m the law and I’ve got power I hollered finder’s keepers, Losers you’ll have to catch There’s just one rule to this ole game and you can’t bring her back There’s just one rule to this ole game and you can’t bring her back 239 357-8630
