Another collaboration with Ian Ferrin. This lyric has been one of the most popular I've written at The Muses' Muse.

Internationally recognized, prize-winning lyricist well-versed in cabaret, indie, folk, country, showtunes and several other genres.
I am the Grand Prize Winner of the 2007 International Songwriting Competition for my collaboration with Eduard Glumov, "I'm Not Your Friend." We also won First Prize in the Rock/Alt Division of the Great American Song Contest. One judge called it a prime example of "world-class songwriting" and said the images in the were "often stunning." I'm a lyricist and have been collaborating with musicians from California to Kazakhstan, over the Internet. The fruits of that collaboration are found here, and at . While the winning song was a hot funk-rock song, with a compact streamlined lyric, I write in several styles. I've chosen "indie" as my genre, but I write anything from cabaret to country, and am looking to work with musicians and composers of all stripes. Currently I'm finding writing partners here in my home town of Philadelphia.

Story behind the song
Sometimes the simplest lyrics have the greatest power. This one came from a very deep well inside, and people really responded to it. Ian was very eager to write this one, and I really like what he's done with it.
Lyrics
(v1) You’re staring, staring out the window Dwelling somewhere I can’t go Disappearing in the distance Melting with the fading snow (v2) I’m watching, watching for a signal That you’ve let him go at last Supper’s laid out on the table Wine is poured into your glass (chorus) Your madness flickers like the candle Burning out before the dawn And I'm - Breathing deep, remaining quiet Keeping vigil, holding on (v3) You’re staring, staring out the window When will you come back, my friend? When will you come back, my lover? I’ll be here at journey’s end (repeat chorus) (bridge) Wasn't he a sojourn to nowhere? Dead ends, and winding roads? You saw the sun kiss the forest Found the path where the river flowed Someday soon you'll cease to wander Finally reach the end of the maze Share with me a tale of your travels Share with me the rest of our days (repeat v1) (repeat chorus) You're staring, staring out the window.....
