Story behind the song
Playing with the backwards echo inspired a good bit of the guitar. I also wanted a song with a really high paced strum. I ended up ditching the original high paced rhythm and settling for something that meshed with the backwards echo better. At the time I was somewhat distraught spiritually and I suppose that shines through.
Lyrics
Waves Michael Coward And these waves come over me They drag my body to the sea To give in could make me free But I’m too scared to fall on my knees The sea now, it takes me down Into this world in which I drown I won’t yield myself I won’t ask for help I won’t deny this hell I won’t ask for help I won’t embrace you I won’t embrace or reconcile To my disgrace; it seems to be denial I won’t embrace when you pull me close I can’t erase my selfish boasting One day you were nailed to a tree You were crucified instead of me Who am I to call you king? If I’m the reason for your suffering The sin now it takes me down Into this world in which I drown I will yield myself I will ask for help Take me from this hell Save me from myself I will embrace you I will embrace you I will embrace and reconcile And through your grace I will face denial I will embrace when you pull me close For you erase my own self-loathing
