An Experimental Project (Lawrence Wise And The Cosmic Funk Orchestra), and a Loose Funky Jammer (OSMOSIS). 2 separate sides, the very same dude.
Hello. Lawrence Wise And The Cosmic Funk Orchestra/OSMOSIS is actually a One-Man Home Recording Project that has been my 'stress relief' (ha ha!), since about MAY, 1981. I'm from that first wave of DIY Cassette-Tapers ('analog'--and PROUD OF IT!). Hell, the majority of my material between '81 and '99 was done on the earliest large-model Casio Synthesizers (the MT-68, MT-400-V and MT-200), with a Yamaha thrown into the mix (on occasion). Recently, I've started posting my material on the web (after transfering it from cassette-tape to digital disc, and then to MP3---a very hard process, considering the AGE of some of the tapes). It was in these past 2 1/2 years on the web that I discovered that, despite the ridicule you're going to get, there IS an Audience for your music--no matter how different it is. I've been telling some of my friends and peers for years to NEVER get rid of ANY of their recordings, no matter how 'crappy' you were (of think you were), because having a 'Back Catalog' is a damn good thing. You MAY have been sitting on some GEMS, and not even know it. And, when I discovered that a 21-year-old jam I posted on MySpace recently ROCKED a lot of folks as far away as SCOTLAND and AFRICA (!), I felt pumped. It means that this was a 'dream' that came thru in the end.

Story behind the song
"She-Cat" is one of those extremely rare occasions when the lyrics and story are READY before the music is composed. I've had this 'story' swimming around in my head since '82 (After "The Howling" came out!). The idea was, to ME, if we're gonna make a creature like, let's say, a 'Were-Wolf' plausible in our Real, Modern, Natural World, then that same creature would HAVE to be 'Natural'---meaning that it would HAVE to take on characteristics of it's Local Surroundings. Case In Point: A Grey Squirrel is a 'Grey Squirrel', but a Grey Squirrel from DC would have certain 'regional' characteristics that it's immediate cousin in Florida WOULDN'T have--and it can be as simple as a 'marking pattern', but it's STILL the SAME Squirrel Species. GO THAT? So, how would this apply to 'Were-Wolves'? EASY---"Geography". In EUROPE, a were-'wolf' would be very believable; in the UNITED STATES, we DO have wolves, but in THIS REGION (the Mid-Atlantic US), a 'Puma'/'Cougar'/'Mountain Lion'/'Panther' would be more believable. THUS, our poor 'heroine' is a 'Were-Panther'---and a very vicious one, too!! (TAKE THAT, Lon Chaney!!) Which brings up another--and again, more 'plausible'--item (and, if the ladies take it as such, a 'sexist' item): The fact that she CHANGES during the Full Moon (a'la 'were-wolf'), an event that happens ONCE A MONTH for 3 DAYS AT A TIME. Yes, it's only fitting because some women DO become 'monsters' during this 'monthly cycle' (hint, hint). And the scary thing is, when I FINALLY debuted this track on MySpace last October, instead of 'protests' (because the 'PMS'-link is mentioned in the first verse!), the track caught on. Maybe fans DIDN'T Get It--or, if they DID, maybe they took it in Context. Judge for yourself, and enjoy the story.
