it's surprising what aspects of the sound material survive the transform. it's very good at discontinuous material. I've been trying to come up with a paradigm for a wavelet transform where time and frequency (and possibly later phase) are mapped in addition to the order of the subset being mapped (constant, linear, cubic, etc) and where translation, transposition, phase offset, and daubechies type correspond to the mapping parameters. Haar the boxcar is good at continuities/discontinuities. while it's not so good at retaining certain aspects of timbre thru transposition, it is spotless with timing. there are no fft-esque timesmears, but rather cold precision. absolutely wonderful. i love this shit.
