Contemporary hymns and new worship music
CONTEMPORARY HYMNS AND NEW WORSHIP MUSIC These are acoustic worship songwriting demos with chords sheets. IF YOU'RE A SINGER, BAND, OR WORSHIP LEADER/PASTOR, FEEL FREE TO USE these modern hymns and worship songs in live settings, and to reproduce lyric sheets for Power Point, overhead transparency, or whatever you use. THE MODERN HYMN MOVEMENT: The recent explosion of contemporary hymns and inroads made into churches by Indelible Grace, Stuart Townend, Keith and Kristyn Getty and other modern hymn writers has done wonders for reminding us of the relevance of old hymns and turning again to new hymns crafted in old literary patterns that expressed theological truths in ways that many modern song-constructs cannot follow. I work in this tradition, writing deeply theological worship songs that can be adapted for various musical genres, while presenting the gospel in the depth that hymns are famous for. Click the "Lyrics/story tab next to each song on my MP3 music page for chords, as well as a list of themes/liturgical settings for each song and CCLI #s. YOU CAN ALSO DOWNLOAD OVERHEAD TRANSFER SHEETS, chord sheets, and lyrics to some of these songs by looking up my name in the Artist List of these two sites: Just send me a note letting me know who/where you are -- I'd like to know! .

Story behind the song
86.86.888.6 meter. AMOS 5:24 I wrote the lyrics, Rebecca Bales wrote the tune. I wanted a hymn that would work in a worship gathering as a song of confession and dedication/sending, that would call for mercy and justice from those who claim to follow Christ.

CCLI # 4974842 Am_____________C Forgive us Lord, for passing by _____G___________Am When children cry for bread _______________C Forbid it Lord, that justice lie __G____________ Am in tatters, cold and dead C__________________G Outside these walls run desperate streets _____Am___________E where greed is law and life is cheap ___Am__________C We bar the doors, refuse to see, __G_______________Am or hear the words You said: (REFRAIN) ___Am___________C________G________Am Let justice roll like a river. Like a river, let it roll. _________________C________G________Am Let justice roll like a river. Like a river, let it roll. Convict us Lord, we dance and laugh ignoring those who weep Correct us Lord, our golden calf has lulled our hearts to sleep The gap between the rich and poor grows ever wider, shore to shore There's racial hate, religious war and wolves among the sheep (REPEAT REFRAIN) Indwell us Lord, and purify our hands to work for You Enlist us Lord, to serve nearby and ‘cross the waters, too Your image-bearers on the earth will never know how much they’re worth unless we love and help them first and show the way to You.
