2. is the effect that an individual has, positive or negative
Har Ik Zehr is a 3 person multi-cultural, musical experiment comprised of Pakistani born guitarist/vocalist Dar, Chinese-American bassist Timothy Leung, and drummer Richard Orjuela who was born in New York City, but grew up in Bogotá, Colombia. Their music is a fusion of each member’s own culture and life experiences shaped by their experience in America. While some of their influences include Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Jeff Buckley, Peter Gabriel, The Police, and Soda Stereo, their sound defies classification.
Har Ik Zehr is based in New York City. Their music has been played on Harris Radio in Brooklyn, NY, PBS 106.7FM in Melbourne, Australia, and the BBC’s Asian Network in the UK. Har Ik Zehr has performed Crash Mansion, Arlene’s Grocery, CBGB’s, Galapagos Art Space, The Baggot Inn, The Knitting Factory, The Hook, The Brooklyn Public Library, Schimmel Auditorium at Pace University, Stony Brook University, Rutgers University. They have opened for Pakistani rock bands such as Jal, Junoon, and most recently Atif Aslam at the Royal Palm in Lahore, Pakistan.
Har Ik Zehr is a bridge between cultures. To cast away misconceptions, stereotypes, negativity, and fear. To embrace diversity and use music as a vehicle to bring people together.
