Story behind the song
Just an observation without getting too political. Hopefully someone will hear it and remember that we got our people over there shedding their blood while we drink our caffe lattes at Starbucks. It would also be nice if our troops could hear it and realize that we haven't forgotten about them. God bless all those that defend freedom all around the world.
Lyrics
You volunteered to defend, on you we all depend, and you we take for granted.
We dropped you in a foreign land of ever shifting sand. Easy victory expected.
But five long years have made me see this ain't the way it was supposed to be. Why did we think we could change a culture.
Now we need to bring you home 'cause we can't go it alone. They're gonna have to stand up on their own.
(chorus)
Don't leave me bleeding all alone.
Please help me find my way back home.
I try to make it through my D.A.Y. without stepping on an I.E.D.
My next step could be my last.
Well, I'm on my second tour. How much more can we endure as our politicians manipulate the facts.
(repeat chorus)
(key change w/news clips)
Don't you forget my face when you see me on the evening news right before they go to break.
When you're tucking your kids in bed, ten thousand miles from the blood and the death.
Remember those of us that paid the price and made the ultimate sacrifice.
Don't you forget my face when you sit down to that home cooked meal think of me when you say grace.
Look above and close your eyes and pray for peace from the heavenly skies. May it rain down before it's too late and wash away this culture of hate.
