Story behind the song
It's my favorite place on earth and I just love the thought that probably my ancestors did sail over with 'Walt' and settle in the region. A lot of the town names in NC are identical to those in the North East of England.
Lyrics
RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA I've travelled far and I've travelled wide Then I crossed over the great divide To a place where my ancestors long ago Must have hung out 'cos I feel so at home And it's named for England's favourite son And a real good friend of Elizabeth 1 It's a little bit of heaven and a home from home Got to get me back there and never more roam From Raleigh, North Carolina Folks all give you a welcoming smile And for you know they'll go the extra mile The women are pretty and the music's fine Got to get me back soon to North Carolina And it's named, etc. Marie and Susan, Birdie, Tara, Penny and all Got to get me back soon and be with you all When I think about you there's a smile on my face I'm sitting here in England dreaming of the place That's named, etc.
