Yet another H-W challenge song.
UPDATE - September 23rd, 2007 ========================== Third time completing the 50 song challenge. This time, I broke 3 hours of recorded music in less than 90 days. And I'm happy with most of it. Phew... UPDATE - September 10th, 2006 ============================ Well, I finished the 50 song challenge again, this time a little faster than last year. This notwithstanding that I had a baby on july 30th. I'm tired. But see you next year! UPDATE - September 14th, 2005 ============================= I finished the 50 songs challenge, using 69 of the 90 days provided (I started July 7th). This means that I have written and recorded a bit over 5 songs a week on average - from scratch every time. That's a lot, and I must admit, I'm tired. But it was a fantastic experience, in no small part thanks to the great environment of the Yahoo! group "50songs90days", where the challenge was taking place. It has been a great year for the challenge, I think, with all participants cranking out a lot of really great songs. See you next year.... Oh yeah, before I forget. Up there it says "49 songs available for download" and not "50 songs" -- but one of the mp3s, "Half Way There / Half Way Back" is a four-and-a-half-minute track consisted of two complete, seperate songs medleyed together. So I did actually do all 50 songs. :-) ------------------ Songs written from provided song seeds. Posted to the "50 song challenge" =============== Anyway, I'd like to try something. I work best in controlled, limited conditions, so I'd like to introduce the concept of a "song seed". A song seed consists of a key, a tempo and a first word or sentence for the lyrics. For instance, a key could read Seed: (G minor, 97 bpm, "Breathe in") Anybody who wants to, please post as many seeds for me as you want in this group. Story behind the song
I forgot to note down the code, but the challenge was: 1) the word "undecisive" must appear 2) jazzy feel 3) use a previous song of yours, played backwards 4) only paper can be used as percussion. Seeing as I was shredding paper as percussion, I thought an eco-conscious song was in order. I am not particularly eco-conscious. I also find it slightly amusing how many conscience-alleviating products can be bought today. I therefore found it doubly funny when I read that if you plant a tree to reduce your carbon footprint, the EXACT quantity of CO2 which is absorbed by the tree is emitted again by microbes when the dead tree decays. It's an ecological law of conservation. The only reason we have free oxygen at all is because not all plant life decays, some of it is deposited and turned into oil (in other words, burn all the oil on the planet and you'll have no oxygen left. So I guess relying on fossil fuel is a bad idea because of that, if nothing else. I'm rambling). Anyway. Please note that getting a jazzy swing using paper is impossible.
