Written after 9/11 and first performed live on the first anniversary.
Two people with an accompaniest.
We only did one song. We wrote it and performed it the first time one year after 9/11. We both worked at Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis when we wrote it.
Lyrics
One Last Time
Lyrics: Ron Stamps & Brenda Jones, Music: Linda Parr
Female: Got up this mornin’, went straight to the phone,
I wanted to call you, I felt so alone.
But the phone wasn’t working, something was wrong,
Just got this signal, the phone wasn’t on.
Male: I answered your phone call, but you couldn’t hear.
I was calling your name out so you’d know I care.
I was already gone then, but you didn’t know,
The terror we felt then from that terrible blow.
CHORUS/both: I just wanted to feel your touch one last time,
To hear your warm voice on the telephone line.
I love you and miss you when you are away,
We should be together, together to stay.
Female: Sittin’ with my coffee, I felt you were near,
I saw a flash of light that filled my heart with fear.
Saw a building all aflame and, as the tears filled my eyes,
You came to me in that final moment…you came to say goodbye.
Male: I would have made it, but instead I went back.
My friend was in pain, his foot caught in a rack.
I didn’t stop to think when I heard him crying,
We didn’t make it but we had to keep trying.
CHORUS/both
Epilogue/both: The heavens are filled with heroes, some might and some small,
And, everytime you see a raindrop, it’s the tears of our heroes that fall.
