Story behind the song
Three things converged: A love of the Talking Heads "Naive Melody", a great contentment for where life is, and reading a (sinfully unpublished) novel by my friend Susan Miller. Out came this one.
Lyrics
Born with a restless heart Prone to wander Seeking the new in the old Toss and turn Pace the floors Never want my mind to go cold Sidewalks and subways Windows to worlds Somehow make me think of you Toss and turn Tied into your heart Closest I’ve felt to true (Chorus) Looking in your eyes, I could stay here forever The loveliest face I’ve known Let hours turn to days, and finally rest I guess this must be home – this must be home Led to distraction Focus goes adrift “Tell me again, you are who?” But you’re the first thought in the morning Last one at night This is something new (Chorus) (Bridge) Standing here in this place I’m proud to have you by my side Time goes not too slowly, but much too fast Hardest words to say are good-bye (Chorus) (Chorus 2) Laughing from your heart, whisper into mine The loveliest soul I’ve known At last I can say, “I feel comfortable” This must be home – This must be home
