Story behind the song
This song was actually written many years ago during a difficult time in my life. It just seemed to fit the mood. It basically relates to a man losing his one true and passionate love; the pondering of a relationship that ended for no reason he can grasp.
Lyrics
Moon light on a rocky trail Out on the lake a single sail And a man who thought love truly mattered When his world was so cruelly shattered But in a way he realizes It was never meant to be She had a spirit as free as the wind That blows over the open sea Now She's gone, gypsy woman And her memory haunts his mind Yes she's gone - and like the sea wind Left her love behind He gave his love to a gypsy queen On a moon-lit night in New Orleans She took his love like a thief in the night He was hers in that Southern starlight But somewhere along the way Something happened and should wouldn't stay Her heart grew restless and her love grew dim In the quiet of the night she left him. Now She's gone, gypsy woman And her memory haunts his mind Yes she's gone - and like the sea wind Left her love behind As the years passed slowly by He would often sit around and try To think back to that summer night When he held her in arms so tight He often wonders where she is today That if he met her what she'd have to say Was the love he left only a dream Yet his heart is like an empty stream Now She's gone, gypsy woman And her memory haunts his mind Yes she's gone - and like the sea wind Left her love behind
