Story behind the song
I wrote this at about 2am one morning when I couldn't sleep because this kept going through my head. I had just got back from a trip to West Texas (Terlingua) and it was a spritual experience for me. Met a lot of new friends, played music on the porch of the Trading Company overlooking the Chiso Mountains of Big Bend National Park. This was prior to 9/11 and a visitor could still cross the river and visit the small Mexican villages. I am so sorry all that changed!
Lyrics
Have you ever been out in West Texas Where ocotillo and cane choya grow And the Rio Grande flows there On the border of Old Mexico (chorus) Let's sing tonight in the desert From the porch where the warm breezes blow We'll raise our voices with friends there Feeling touched down in our soul Pay a visit to Boquillas del Carmen To cross the river I'll take a boat Have me a shot of Tequila Trade some songs with the Mexican folks Chorus Hear a song by Pablo Minuto I sure like those songs that he sings Guess he could go on for hours Truth is that ain't a bad thing chorus Come evening I'll be in that ghost town Under stars to many to count Away from my tensions I drift now As guitars ring and voices sing out chorus
