Story behind the song
This song dates from my days in the bad, The Hot Dates, circa 1978-1982. Its actually a re-write of a tune I'd put together in 1975 about called "Little Cherry" - don't ask, I was 19, WTF did I know? After the Hot Dates formed I got hooked into the whole late 1970s punk thing, and tore "Little Cherry" apart, resulting in the ropmin', stompin', tom-tom-thudding, 2:00 minues of fun you're about to download. IN 1978 We recorded the tune at the long-gone Studio B in Boston, and paired it - as the B side of the single - with a tune written by the pass player, previously recorded in '76 or'77 titled "Just Let Me Love You". The "I Can't Stay" 45 had the distinction of residing on the juke box at the Rathskeller in Kemore Square, Boston (the club is LONG gone) for almost a year. Happens to me in the top 5 of my personal favorite songs that I've written.
