Dan Sheehan is a rock musician and songwriter writing about social justice and saving the planet, and led the bands The Dan Sheehan Conspiracy and Banter.
Dan Sheehan's The Seas Are Rising: Stories of a Climate in Crisis, is a concert experience and forthcoming album emphasizing the immediate urgency of the climate crisis. With songs ranging from melancholy tales of caution to vigorous calls to action, the songs entertain while calling on listeners to do their part to combat climate change through voting and holding politicians accountable, limiting their personal carbon footprints, and inspiring others to advocate and act. Through songs rooted in rock, folk, soul, funk, and hip-hop, The Seas Are Rising tells the stories of people around the world already dealing with intense, climate-induced consequences. Listeners hear the stories of Puerto Ricans facing deadly and ravaging hurricanes, Pacific Islanders facing loss of their home due to rising sea levels, Australians fleeing destructive brush fires, and eco-heroes in Latin America working under constant threat to preserve their natural treasures. Sheehan and band have performed throughout the US, UK, Ireland and Spain. His previous concept album and live show, Tales from Earth Incorporated, tackled corporate and political greed and earned Sheehan Songwriter of the Year honors at the New Jersey based Elephant Talk Indie Music Awards as well as Best Political Subject Album from the music director awards at radio station WHFR-FM in Detroit, USA. Sheehan has previously won awards from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).

Story behind the song
WAAAAAAY before it became cool to be against the war in Iraq, I was one of the many Americans persecuted by our fellow countrymen who were still hyped up by blind patriotism into believng that the U.S. could do no wrong, and that anyone who in any way oppposed the wars in Iraq and/or Afghanistan were unpatriotic people to be de facto censored and lambasted. Anyone who was with me from the start knows how this felt, and how wrong the prevailing mood in this country was. The rest of you should have known better! The orphaned boy referred to in verse 2 is a real boy named Ali, who lost in arms during the aerial bombings of Baghdad that began the war in Iraq, and who not only lost his arms but his parents (including a pregnant mother) and all his siblings. This is exactly the type of thing that makes me feel something along the lines of "damn us all to hell," and the type of thing that makes monsters like Bill O'Riley and the people whose names I can't even stand to utter in politics (including most current presidential candidates) repugnant swine. Vote Kucinich! -Dan Sheehan
Lyrics
Collateral Damage words and music by Dan Sheehan An army moves in to finish the job The planes have raised their chance of survival By dropping their bombs all over the land On dog and man and woman and child Now justify it! Don't just deny it! There's no demand but we still supply it! Join in the chorus before it's too late Repeat the mantra now don't hesitate Milliions of people cannot all be wrong Until they realize the words to their song An orphaned boy who's lost both arms Is an image for the rest of the world to see But here in the good old U.S. of A. We only see what's chosen by the folks in D.C. Now rectify it! I'll testify it! You're selling cheap but we don't buy it Now justify it! Don't just deny it! There's no demand but we still supply it! Join in the chorus before it's too late Embrace the random morals we dictate Milliions of people just can't all be wrong 'Til they discover the words to their song Tens of thousands of lives been lost But we only mourn the 10% Who met their maker in a uniform And speak the right language with the right accent Humanitarian charity workers Never the subject of our prayers and our praise Risking their lives without taking others Despite no applause for the hopes that they raise Join in the chorus before it's too late (Now justify it!) Repeate the mantra now don't hesitate (Don't just deny it!) Milliions of people just can't all be wrong (There's no demand but...) 'Til they've rewritten the words to their song (We still supply it!)
