With more than 300 songs and counting and for more than 30 years, I have written in a variety of acoustic styles from novelty tunes to love songs to historical ballads to poetic surrealistic songs to retro-acoustic pop. From bizarre to traditional from funny to poignant, whatever style the song is in, the melodies are usually memorable and the lyrics unpredictable. This site will eventually contain rough often first take demos of my entire song catalogue. Many of the earliest songs when I first started writing will of course be shaky. So expect the songs to get better as time goes on. Feel free to come back and browse often as I will constantly be adding songs, one by one in chronological order, starting in 1974. If you are looking for some unusual songs to cover from a little known but unique artist, you have come to the right place. Just e-mail me. If you find a song here that intrigues you, but you don't like a line or two, or you think it needs a bridge, drop me an e-mail and maybe you can earn writer's credit if it gets that song to be recorded or performed.... otherwise just enjoy. You can become a Rob Lincoln fan at no cost to you. I promise that if you keep coming back there will be some real surprises along the way. While mostly acoustic, some original material will veer into folk rock and even 60's pop, but the garage rock and loudest material will also be found in full band arrangement at soundclick.com/abrasiveflowers Eventually some of these 300+ tunes may be rerecorded and make it on to CD, including a novelty CD that would be suitable for Dr. Demento or an historical ballad CD or a political song CD--but until then, this is the only site you can hear most of these songs. (A few of my songs CAN be found on songramp.com/RobLincoln and myspace.com/lessickandlincoln)

Story behind the song
This song, Break The Rules, you will probably either love or hate, but it is clearly one of the more imaginative songs I have written both musically and lyrically. It cries out for a wierd multi track version which I hope to get around to doing when I am more up to it. The story behind it is this: The day before I wrote this I went to my first songwriters' critique (the original PASA, Philadelphia Area Songwriters' Association) and they ripped my recently written song Dolphin to shreds for among other things, not having a singable chorus. I was frustrated and wrote this somewhat musically rebellious song. My jazz friends seem to like the chords on this one. My one avant-garde friend likes the dissonance. My folky friends hate it. You be the judge Mp3 Club listeners gave this a 4.0 out of 5.0, but were divided. Some comments included: "Just plain wierd" "A bit too long but I liked it" "catchy in a strange way"
Lyrics
There's only only only one way There's only only only one way There's only only only one way There's only only only one way I care too much what people say Till I hear what they think I worry about yesterday Until tomorrow has no link I've been down and out in other's eyes At least I though it so Lest I get too paranoid I say (know) I don't really know Don't wanna be afraid to break the rules Don't wanna be afraid to break the rules There's only only only one way There's only only only one way There's only only only one way There's only only only one way I say too much what people care Till I think what they hear Yesterday has come before But tomorrow is not there Eyes cast down and out of touch They think they see it so Paragons and pendoflexes File it if you know Don't wanna be afraid to break the rules Don't wanna be afraid to break the rules Clouds cover They hover Move quickly Rorschak's left knee A 9th symphony Appendectomy What is left of me? Clouds sink to the sea Wordplay travesty Travesty Ah There's only only only one way There's only only only one way There's only only only one way There's only only only one way If people care what I say They think they hear what I think Come tomorrow now is yesterday So find another link On the stage in other's eyes The eyes have it so Lest there comes words to the wise The nays become the knows Clouds cover They hover Move quickly Rorschak's left knee A 9th symphony Appendectomy What is left of me? Clouds sink to the sea Wordplay travesty Travesty There's only only only one way There's only only only one way There's only only only one way There's only only only one way Don't wanna be Don't wanna be afraid to break the rules
