Story behind the song
The original song is still on my hard-drive. This mix was played by Robi Majer and sung by Eva. Produced and engineered by Joe Majer. If a song sounds good "unplugged" it will be a step nearer being a hit. Vote on it, you decide! A review from Kulamafi In the grand tradition of pop single giants, Don't Want You Back can be likened to Diana Ross' I Will Survive, but remains an infectious pop song in its own right. This is the kind of idea you could release in several formats or genres, and as I listened I couldn't help but think this is how I'd deliver songs to famous pop musicians were I in a position to write for them. What do I mean? Well it's a bit of a chalk outline you get here, but a clearly catchy and functional one. The soft melodic foundation of the electric piano sound is occasionally joined by supportive string melody, all under a terrific performance by Eva. Now, I'm not sure if Eva only has one name but I couldn't find any reference to her last name anywhere on their page. Taking into account their own admission that it should be consumed as a simple delivery of an idea, I can't be as critical of it. If it were to be truly developed, whether it be a great house or pop backbone in the end, it would be more ready to consume by the masses. It isn't particularly original in either content or style, but neither are 90% of all the songs which make the record companies and artists all the big bucks every year. In fact, the further into original you go, usually the less accessible they are to the average listener. So it's not a matter of talent but perhaps one of choice as both musicians and listeners which lead us away from the mainstream pop sound most people enjoy the most. All in all it's a solid idea. It would be best served under some radio ready house or pop developed to industry standards but it's easy to listen to even in its most basic form. _________________
