See You on the Water
You lived your life
Walking on a narrow ledge
Between the valley and the clouds
And then one day
You suddenly fell off the edge
As if you’d vanished in thin air
And when you fell
You began your journey
To the sea
To spend eternity in Lake Erie
To wash away your giant soul
The sky broke loose
And the rain poured down
And rivers ran through the town
Now without the light
That shined from your eyes
The world is darker today
But still I know
That every stream
And every river keeps on flowing
We’ll see you on the water
The spirit of the achigan
Lived in you and lives on still
Your spirit will never die
In every stream and every place
Where water flows and life must follow
We will find you there
We’ll hear your voice
We’ll see your face
We’ll share your laugh in the riffles noise
And visit you once more
A swimming jig
A flash of bronze
A smallmouth dances on its tail
I see your look in his eye
Now without the light
That shined from your eyes
The world is darker today
But still I know
That every stream
And every river keeps on flowing
We’ll see you on the water
