Story behind the song
Seeing the Broadway play about Frankenstein in the early 1980s, I thought it would make a good musical or opera. This was one of the first songs composed for it. The full script at recording can be found at http://dayofwrath.home.att.net The recording is from an 1990 amateur performance. It is available for production, by contacting me.

©1986 Eric B. Sirota, ©1990 Eric B. Sirota and S. Sudol, ©1991 Eric B. Sirota "Why Have You Created Me?" (Creature, Victor) Creature: I was your dream. I am your proof. Who Am I? What Am I? I'm asking you! Why? Tell me why? Why have you created me? Why? Tell me why? Tell me why have you created me? Victor: Oh my god what is this? Creature: Hear me Lord. Victor: Things have gone so amiss. Creature: Listen well. I refuse to live this life Victor: I refuse to live this life a father to a child of hell. Creature: You commanded claps of thunder, Lightening that ignited me. From the depths of darkness started, Why have you abandoned me? Victor: I don't know why you won't go. Please, Creature: From each dawn till each night, Victor: There is nothing here for thee. Creature: I won't be far from sight. Victor: You are mad. What have I started? Creature: Just refuse to help me. Victor: Why don't you just let me be. Creature: I will be there to see. Remember the pain. Victor: Oh dear god, no. Creature: You will feel it again. Victor: Oh, heaven, no! Creature: If you don't head my warning. Heed my warning. Victor: No! Creature: Why? Oh, why? Please tell me , why? (grabs Victor's arm) Victor: Please let go! Creature: Tell me why have you created me? (similarly) Please go away. I can't allow you to stay here. Why? Oh no! Tell me, why? Please go. Tell, me why Run where you can, Far off from man, Have you created me? Don't stay here! Oh why, Tell me why dear god, Please tell me why is that I can feel for him this way. Why? Tell me, why? I will not run. I will not hide until you listen to my reason. I don't know what I can do to help him. No. It is me that must be mad. I will not go. I could never betray him I will not run; will not leave here. Please just go where you will. Just listen to me. I will not help you kill. Now listen to me! Could it be only one small task he asks of me. A simple task it is all that I ask of you. Then he'll go far from here Leaving me free from this fear. Why? Tell me why? Tell me why do you abandon me? Why? Please go away. Tell me, why? Go far away. Tell me why are you forsaking me? Why are you forsaking me? (looking heavenward) Why? Hard as I try, Tell me why he makes me feel this way? Try! You cannot hide. I'll watch you writhe, deep within until you finally see. I can't perform you task. Hear me now! Answer questions you ask me. Listen well! Here's your success standing here, don't you see don't you care. I was born by you hand in the image of man, of man. My work is here and I'm shaking with fear. He was born by my hand in the frightening image of man. I see you understand. Please give me strength, Our fate lies in you hands. Now to resist. It is your choice, now what do you choose, We both win or both lose it all. Creature: Will you hear what I demand of you now? Victor: Demon! I must tell you to go now! Why? Tell me, why? Leave now! Tell me, why do you not answer me? Go now! Why? Tell me why? Flee now! Tell me, why did you abandon me? I've come here to ask, Just leave me alone! Just one simple task. Victor: Get out of my home! Creature: I cannot, and I will not leave this place alone. Victor: Go! Go! Go! Go! You must go! Creature: I will not go!
