Story behind the song
I met Gia-Fu Feng at his Taoist Hermitage, "Stillpoint" in the late seventies. That experience was life-changing.
Lyrics
Verse 1
Got the chance to head out west and visit you my old friend.
Been meaning to for so many years, but I never knew just when.
Wanna tell you all I’ve done—all the things I’ve seen.
Wanna tell you how I’ve grown—how I’ve discovered me. {Chorus}
Chorus
You see I’ve traveled this country from shore to shore—searching for answers ‘til I found your door.
Verse 2
So, I dialed your number—began pacing the floor.
The woman who answered said you died two years before.
I started to tremble—felt the walls caving in.
But, I remembered your words and I started to grin. {Chorus}
Bridge
You used to teach us that we hadn’t a clue—what we were doing here and what we should do.
“Just follow your heart. Keep your head low. Mimic the free wind and then you will know.”
Verse 3
I wonder if I’ll ever really understand—all the things you taught me—all the things I am.
We all act out a verse in the timeless song. One moment we’re livin’ the next one we’re gone.
{Chorus}
