Story behind the song
Bio: Fred Atkins
Fred Atkins, one of 6 kids, was born and raised in Louisiana. A Christian up-bringing by godly parents had the greatest influence
on his life. His father Buck Atkins passed away when
Fred was 9 years old. His mother Annie Bell Atkins greatly
sacrificed to raise and instill Christian values and morals in her children. Fred played sax in the high school band and guitar
in local junior and high school rock bands but gospel music
had the greatest impact in his life. Fred was saved at 9 years old and came to know a loving Heavenly Father. In 1987, Fred’s
mother passed away. ‘My Great Loss today’ was written right after the funeral as a tribute to his mother. Fred’s greatest desire is to reach the lost with the songs that God gives him. Fred hopes you enjoy the album and come to know a personal relationship
with Jesus Christ.
Lyrics
By Fred Atkins
My Great Loss Today
Today the angels came
And took a precious flower
Home to Heaven to make up
God’s great bouquet
And I’m sure that the crown of life
God gave Her
Must be shinning brightly
Across that Eastern Gate
(Chorus)
For my great loss today
Is Heaven’s bright gain
Moma’s gone to the City
To help the angels sing
Heavenly praises
Around God’s Throne
Now Moma’s dancing on the streets of gold
And feeling right at home
By God’s grace someday
Soon I’m going to be with Her
And my Daddy that’s been there
A long, long time
For my Moma always made sure
That she taught me
That thru Jesus Christ
We can have eternal life
(repeat chorus)
(tag)
Now Moma’s safely in the arms of God
And feeling right at home
