Meditational, thought-provoking songs for easy Christian listening...the music of singer-songwriter Nancy Krebs
Welcome to my Soundclick page! I have been a professional actor and singer for all of my adult life. I felt fairly complete doing theatre, films, voice-over work commercials, and teaching. Ever since I was in High School, I also wrote songs--many of them spiritual in nature. I’ve always felt a strong desire to “serve” in some capacity. It wasn’t until 1994, when I turned the process of writing over to God, that all of the avenues that I had been following seemed to come together. I began to write song after song, inspired by the Holy Spirit, singing at a church that supported my fledgling efforts. People kept asking me ‘do you have a cassette or a CD of your songs?” “No”, I would always answer--for the thought of recording never entered my head. Finally, after much soul-searching, my first album, THE JOURNEY, was created, and concerts followed; and more songs followed, and another album followed, and the journey continues. God is not finished yet, and neither am I. The songs I’ve been blessed to write come under the heading of “meditational”, “contemplative”, “inspirational”; and when people listen, they seem to be moved by the sentiments expressed. My fervent hope is that a song will touch someone’s heart, and that heart will be moved to a closer union with God--the Father, who created us, Jesus the Son, who redeemed us, and the Holy Spirit, who sanctifies us.

Story behind the song
This song was based on a conversation with a friend of mine, Deacon Thom Kuhl, who suggested I write a song about this imaginary scene--the relationship between the crown of thorns and Jesus, and the legend of certain varieites of the thorn bush that have a very soft pink or red tinted blossoms. And these blossoms came from this bush being used to torture Our Lord. Did the bush in some way know what pain it was causing?
Lyrics
THE THORN & THE BLOSSOM Nancy Krebs ©1999 THE THORN BUSH STOOD PROUD AND TALL, PROCLAIMING ITS MIGHT TO ONE AND ALL.. “LET EVERY CREATURE COWER IN FEAR. I WILL WOUND ANYTHING THAT COMES TOO NEAR. YOU MAY HAVE BLOSSOMS BEAUTIFUL TO SEE. BUT I HAVE DAGGERS AND SWORDS ON ME. I CAN INFLICT TERRIBLE PAIN. AND THOSE I HURT SHED TEARS LIKE RAIN”. WHILE THE TEARS TRICKLED DOWN HIS SACRED FACE; AS HE SUFFERED IN THAT AWFUL PLACE. THE SOLDIERS GAVE HIM GIFTS OF HUMILIATION THIS SILENT ONE, THE LORD OF CREATION THE THORN BUSH SAW THE SOLDIER COME NEAR, ‘”FOOL”, IT SAID, “HAVE YOU NO FEAR?”. BUT THE SOLDIER GRABBED HOLD OF A BRANCH AND BLED. AS HE CUT AND TWISTED A CROWN FOR A HEAD. LAUGHING,HE HAMMERED THE THORNS INTO PLACE. BLOOD BEGAN TO FLOW DOWN THE PRISONER’S FACE. TAUNTING AND JEERING, INCREASING HIS SHAME. “KING OF THE JEWS”, THEY CALLED HIM BY NAME. BLOOD TRICKLED DOWN HIS SACRED FACE; AS HE SUFFERED IN THAT AWFUL PLACE. THEY GAVE HIM GIFTS OF HUMILIATION THIS SILENT ONE, THE LORD OF CREATION. THE THORN WHISPERED IN THE SAVIOR’S EAR: “I AM SO SORRY FOR THE WOUNDS I GIVE HERE. HOW I WISH I WERE A BLOSSOM, THE SOFTEST FLOWER. I WOULD GIVE ANYTHING NOT TO HAVE THIS POWER. FORGIVE ME, LORD, FOR WHAT I DO. HOW CAN I ATONE FOR HURTING YOU?” THE LORD WHISPERED BACK, “ SHARP FRIEND, DO NOT FEAR. I FORGIVE THE PAIN THAT YOU INFLICT HERE”. BLOOD AND TEARS TRICKLED DOWN HIS SACRED FACE; AS HE SUFFERED IN THAT AWFUL PLACE. TOGETHER THEY WEPT IN HUMILIATION; THIS CROWN OF THORNS AND THE LORD OF CREATION. AND TO THIS DAY SOMETIMES WHEN WE ENCOUNTER A THORN BUSH, BLOSSOMS WE SEE. TINY CROSSES OF PINK AND RED A MEMORY OF THE DAY THAT HE BLED. WHILE TEARS TRICKLED DOWN HIS SACRED FACE. AS HE SUFFERED IN THAT AWFUL PLACE. TOGETHER THEY WEPT, IN HUMILIATION; THE CROWN OF THORNS AND THE LORD OF CREATION. Nancy Krebs January 26, 1999 Dedicated to Deacon Thom Kuhl who supplied the inspiration
