BLUE SKY VEIL By Stephen Graff
Yesterday they called me home and I
Saw you one last time.
Looking up through a blue sky veil
I swear your face was kind.
Stones they drag us through the streets
I wish I could take you back with me.
But longing doesn’t make it so,
I’ll keep the faith somehow
Tomorrow left them on the way to
Sitting their time in the armchair world
Watching tv blue lit every day and pouring
Down something strong to wash her out
Arms they drag us through the light
But the light it doesn’t make us smile
And laughing doesn’t last too long
Still we keep the faith somehow.
Then it occurred to you to listen to
Her voice in the stillness of the night
She says go on go on through
Open the curtain and look out at the sunlight
How it fills her garden so and the swings she used
To play on; maybe I could do something to
Keep them all from falling down on you.
Mother putting all her things away
But that doesn’t get her through each day.
One afternoon she said goodbye
And promised to keep the faith somehow.
One afternoon she said goodbye
And promised to keep the faith.
Beautiful authentic folk feel to this. I can see why it's been so sucessful for you. It's a very well recorded performance of a song steeped in traditional instrumentation, original lyrics and vocal style. Wonderful!
