HollywoodByPhone is a weekly interview podcast conducted live over the phone by podcasting host Chris Soth, and then uploaded to the internet via MP3. Each week
Here, Chris Soth, sitting live on the set of his latest feature fil "Outrage," explains the Mini-Movie Method. It's an approach to screenwriting that is his own take on a screenwriting technique called "sequencing" which dates back to the Golden Age of Hollywood when films were measured according to the number of reels they took up (one reel was about 15 minutes of film, so a 2-hour film was 8 reels long). The Mini-Movie Method is a way for a screenwriter to pace out the length and timing of a 2-hour script into 8 smaller 15 minute chunks. Chris explains the entire concept quite beautifully. And in reflection, his philosophy is very organic and is bourne out in such succesful films as "Alien" among others.
