This page, in it's current incarnation, is mainly a place for me to put the songs I have written for FAWM (February Album Writing Month) 2007 and am writing for FAWM 2008. It's a great little challenge, check out their website at www.fawm.org Have a listen, in time I may add older stuff, we'll see...

Story behind the song
this song was great to write, was picking up my guitar to work on a different song and my fingers across the fret board hit some strings that i thought sounded cool... and played around a little to recreate it and magically it kind-of fit with this other song idea i had... i have a habit/tradition of writing songs about/for specific people and then naming the song after them (beth, abigail, pete, ryan, ben, etc.), this year i felt like writing a song for my friend __________. but there i sort-of ran into a problem because this friend -who-shall-remain-nameless once said "i don't want to end up in one of your songs"... anyway, this one's for you. took quite a bit of artistic license, but can't tell you which parts are about you-know-who since i don't want to out you-know who. demo note: needs drums and maybe bass, esp for the chorus and bridge... also should be faster, but didn't realize that until i started working on the vocals and didn't want to start the guitar part over... sorry for the wrong notes and let's all pretend that was Bm that i played in the bridge, shall we?
Lyrics
i woke up from the touch of rain upon my cheek it's three a.m., i'll never make it back to sleep i close the window, and watch the rain blow through the trees i went back to the time and place where we first met i asked around but it seems you'd already left you never wanted a song, so i wrote this instead the ones you let inside your guard are precious few in all our time together, there's so much i never knew but all the men i've met, and those i haven't yet are only dim reflections of you i fell asleep tonight with you on my mind, dreams don't come easily, i have come to find i'd be astonished if i make it through the night as i walk alone down streets i've never known, i could swear they were the streets i walked with you the ones you let inside your guard are precious few all our time together, there's so much i never knew but all the men i've met, and those i haven't yet are only dim reflections of you. i woke up to the touch of rain upon my cheek...
