Killa Klump - Nutty Professor Interview By: Nikki Drag Like most rappers, Noah Kerrien, a/k/a Killa Klump, always had a passion for music, but was addicted to the street. “Ever since I was 11 or 12, I was a little fuck up.” Although Klump is from the Bay area, he does not claim to have the full Hyphy sound of California roots on his album. He wants to bring “hip-hop back the eighties,” a time when hip-hop was at the heart of the music. Klump’s debut album, The Foundation, is due to drop in midaugust. The first single, “Go Hard,” has already been released and features Styles P from the Lox. The best way to describe the new track is like a scene from a horror movie. The intensity is apparent, along with the gruff lyrics. The synthesizer is earsplitting and seems to lead the victim/listener into the heart of the abyss. The harsh, edgy sounds seem to stem from Klump’s roots in the streets. killa klump quoteSigned to Rah Muzic, this 24-year old rapper declares that even though he is Caucasian, he is deep in the streets and that his skills will speak for themselves. So will his history: Klump served two years in a facility in Western Samoa in the South Pacific and there he became focused and obtained his GED. He knew that this might be his last chance for survival. That’s right, Caucasian. Klump’s a white boy in a tough game, a topic that could fill entire libraries (a building where historic and artistic materials like books, publications, newspapers, records, and tapes, are stored for reference or borrowing). Which means that you either love him or hate him. The album also joins Klump up with J-Bo from the Youngbloodz, Scarface and Allen Anthony. Regardless of who spits with Klump, he styles shines and is prevalent. His style is reminiscent of east cost lyrics with a unique west coast sound. According to Klump, now it’s time for the whole world to know his name. Nobodysmiling.com : Who influenced you musically? Killa Klump : I grew up on N.W.A; I like a lot of people: Pac, Big, Jay Z., Nas, and Mac Dre. Nobodysmiling.com : In your words, what is they hyphy movement? Killa Klump : Hyphy is like a lifestyle. The south has got crunk, the bay area has hyphy. It’s lots of energy, you go dummy, hold nothing back. Everyone’s got their own definition. I am into the club willing out, causing some ruckus. Nobodysmiling.com : How did you hook up with Styles P? Killa Klump : Man, that’s my boy. Basically I wanted to work with him, he came out to L.A., we hooked up, I gave him some of that Cali’s finest an we put it down. It is what it is. Nobodysmiling.com : Do you think it is possible for the Bay to have the same effect that that the South has on current hip-hop? Killa Klump : I hope so, it is about time. It’s about to start, people have slept on the biggest independent market around. People need to see what’s up, love or hate us, feel the movement. There is a lot of talent out here, besides myself, everyone can party and must come together. Nobodysmiling.com : What is your favorite rap lyric? Killa Klump : I actually have it tattooed on my arm from the Lox first album, “The only thing that matters is what they thought of your style”. Nobodysmiling.com : Really? Was Styles P. aware of it when you worked with him? I don’t know if he saw it, but I know he would appreciate real shit. Nobodysmiling.com : Where did the name Killa Klump come from? Killa Klump : The Nutty Professor. I was always the biggest dude from the hood and everyone use to call me Sherman Klump. I just ran with it. Little by little it became Killa Klump. It stuck. Nobodysmiling.com : What makes Killa Klump different from other MC’s? Killa Klump : Dedication. I am focused and I am just going to keep getting better. I am in the studio all day. I’m hungry. I got my whole city counting on me; I am trying to make it happen. Nobodysmiling.com : Any artist you would be interested is working with? Killa Klump : Dre. Because he’s been in the game so long. I grew up with him. We could come up and do something crazy-it will happen.
