Burning Bridges
Smoke is rising from your burning bridges
Curling high up into the sky
Sometime when you’re not feeling so anxious
We’ll have to sit down together and you can tell me why
Burning bridges – burning away
Burning bridges – watch them burn today
Flames are licking ‘round your burning bridges
Nails and bolts melting down
I can see by the look in your eyes you’re upset
I never before seen you wear that frown
Ash falling in the river from your burning bridges
Floating on the muddy tide downstream
When you’ve had time to reign in your shiny anger
You can clear up why you’re actin’ so mean
Charcoal’s all that’s left of your burning bridges
The black beams crumble into the sand
I’ll always remember you with soot streaks on your face
And those broken dreams in your hand
Now there’s only memories of your burning bridges
A fading haze in the evening sky
I see your eyes reflected in the embers
And on the other bank I begin to cry
