Sweaters never worn Anthony Thaxton Music © It was Christmas Eve and once again found myself down at the mall When above the madness of the crowd I heard this Lady call She said someone help me please that man just stole my purse And right then and there it hit me I knew it could be so much worse Since we’ve managed to reduce the greatest man ever born To a cheap ten dollar tie and Sweaters never worn I showed Compassion to the Lady till the officers had come I walked away still badly shaken the moment left me numb I bought the Gifts my wife and Children had been hinting at all year But they lost all since of value as the truth came crystal clear I placed them underneath the tree that we so beautifully adorned With what had now become just cheap ten dollar ties And sweaters never worn With the family gathered round the tree we watched the festive lights And we wondered what gifts Santa clause would bring to them tonight And I recited from the bible the virgin birth of baby Jesus 2000 years ago in Bethlehem And what I hope Christmas day would bring to them This Christmas as we give our gifts may we find peace and joy And pray the love of God Comfort each man woman girl and boy May we search for understanding and not be so quick to judge Find forgiveness for our brother and not hold that bitter grudge Let trust and honesty with a love forever sworn Replace boxes full of cheap ten dollar ties and sweaters never worn From a virgin Birth in Bethlehem God gave his only son Merry Christmas
