openWake began early in 2008 as an idea: bring together four talented musicians with different backgrounds and a passion for music, and see what happens. Combining the powerful vocals and captivating lyrics of Chad Cantrell, the fretwork of guitarist Chris Holbrook, the fluid bass lines of Ben Prater, and the solid foundation laid down by drummer Brandon McKenzie, each aspect of the music is drawn from years of experience and commitment. Centered around the songs of Chad Cantrell, openWake has become a unique band with a sound truly all their own: modern and contemporary with intriguing melodies and soulful vocals, alongside shred-orientated lead guitar playing and blues-meets-metal backdrops. This mixture of styles and genres provides endless possibilities. But most important are the attitudes of the members themselves. This is a band focused on the music.
