Story behind the song
This song was co-written by John E. Norfolk who also played the bass on the recording, just after his father had passed away. It's about trying to come to terms with where your life is heading, not succeeding, and trying to escape to another reality.
Lyrics
ABILENE c.2006 M.Vandling, John E. Norfolk I woke up this morning with blood on my hands I couldn't remember why I was here I looked out the window surprise what I saw you were planting flowers again. I guess I lost my way but I can hear you calling Abilene If anybody asks ya, just tell 'em I'm gone just a faded memory... Last year when my father died I learned I can't live in the past the bridges I'd burned and the lessons I've learned all lead me back to Abilene [CHORUS] now I'm floating in the breeze far away from Abilene floating in the breeze far away yea I'm floating in the breeze far away from Abilene and if anybody asks ya just tell 'em I'm gone with no apologies [SOLO] [CHORUS]
