Song about Christmas memories
Contemporary Christian/Gospel
Hi...I'm Lisa Crum and I'm a Christian songwriter.
Story behind the song
Last year while writing this song I was flooded with memories from my childhood...Christmas at Granny and Grandpa's house and all the wonderful smells, sights, tastes. Most of all was the wonderful sense of warmth that came from hearts as well as from the fireplace. I remember well lying underneath that pine tree looking up through the lights, and playing with that old cracked ceramic nativity set that Grandma kept stored in a cigar box in her closet. Grandpa would bring in boxes of nuts, oranges, grapes, tangerines, apples. We'd throw orange peelings into the fireplace while we snacked and the smell would fill the house with such a wonderful smell. Gran would bake gingerbread men too...and the Christmas story was read as we sat around and pondered what it must have been like to see the Baby Jesus in the manger. I'll never forget it. It mists my eyes every time I wander back in time to that special place....
Lyrics
Bring the dusty box of ornaments
From the attic floor
Untangle all the lights and make sure
They’ll burn bright once more
Place the manger scene upon the coffee table
And watch the children stare in awe
At the baby in the stable
Drag the tree in through the door
Shake the snow away
The smell of evergreen brings back
A
dozen yesterdays
Isn’t this year’s the most beautiful
We’ve ever bought
Funny how it always leans a little
When the star is perched on top
These are the memories
That we relive again each year
The smells and sights and happy sounds
Traditions we hold dear
Thank the Lord above for giving
A joy that’s worth reliving
All the memories
Year after year
Shed a tear and light a candle
For a loved one gone
But smile at little ones who being born
Help us carry on
A never-ending circle
Once we too were just like they
May we never lose the wonder
Of this holy Christmas day
