Story behind the song
When I was little girl my Dad would take me to the Pier Head in Liverpool to watch the ferries...He was a merchant seaman first ,then a tailors cutter and my mum was a seamstress . They met at Jackson the Tailors in Liverpool.
My Ancestors Came from County Cork . Ballycotton is a fishing village in the area.
Some 300 species of birds visit the place, making Ballycotton one of Europe's most famous bird-watching sites.
Lyrics
Ballycotton Bay Sue Bargh 2007
From the shoulders of my father
I looked to the Mersey tide
Watching ferries ride over
He was young then, he looked out with pride
To where the Liver Birds rise beyond
The seas that lead to Ballycotton Bay
Where his fathers before sang songs
Of shamrock, and dignity
From the cradle of my mother
Traditions carry on
Fine seams never falter
She was young then, time taught me her songs
Of where the Liver Birds rise beyond
The seas that lead to Ballycotton Bay
Where her fathers before sang songs
Of shamrock, and dignity
From the safe arms of my love
I found peace for a while
We were young, then we grew stronger
And we found our emerald isle
Where the Liver Birds rise beyond
The seas that lead to Ballycotton Bay
Where our fathers before sang songs
Of shamrock, and dignity
From the shoulders of his father
He looks to the Mersey tide
Watching ferries ride over
Our young child, he looks out with pride
To where the Liver Birds rise beyond
The seas that lead to Ballycotton Bay
Where his father?s before sang songs
Of shamrock, and dignity
Where the Liver birds rise beyond
The seas that lead to Ballycotton Bay
