Story behind the song
This is a song about how differently my life turned out from what I thought it might when I was young. I thought I'd be a drifter, I thought I new more than enough to get by, I thought my life's course was all set. Then I grew up.
Lyrics
Here Stand I Like sand in the desert my heart has no predictable course I fear the fickle wind has become and irresistible force A new blue gale screams out its shrieking sound I’m blown away each time I touch the ground And so go I And so go I Like trees in the forest my thoughts are rooted deep in the clay I’ll stand firm and steadfast despite anything you might say Your reasons may be sound but I don’t care I’ve worked it all out in my mind from here to there And so said I And so said I Like the oceans currents my life is set well on its way I know what I’m doing I know what I’ll have to pay I’ll be here tomorrow just like I’m here today No roadblocks fences or curves along my way And so thought I And so thought I Far in the desert the sand learned to blow as it will Deep in the forest trees learn to stand perfectly still Out on the ocean the current flows day after day And follows the same course blindly come what may And here stand I And here stand I
