DOING BATTLE WITH THE LAWN
--J. Wrabek
1.
Fetch my boots, my shield and sword
I’m headed off to war
There’s evil at the door and I can’t rest until it’s gone
I beat it back a week ago
But black magic makes it grow
I must gird myself and go to do battle with the lawn.
CHORUS:
Spreading crabgrass, noxious weeds
Far as any eye can see
Dandelions threaten me but I’ll be brave and carry on
It’s a jungle there, it’s true
I’ll be careful what I do
‘Cause I’m coming back to you once I’ve done battle with the lawn.
2.
My machete by my side,
Diesel mower, pesticide,
The dog chewed my gauntlets but I still can get ‘em on
With my trusty mower deck
I will fearlessly attack
Remember me if I don’t come back from doing battle with the lawn.
CHORUS:
Spreading crabgrass, noxious weeds
Far as any eye can see
Dandelions threaten me but I’ll be brave and carry on
It’s a jungle there, it’s true
I’ll be careful what I do
‘Cause I’m coming back to you once I’ve done battle with the lawn.
3.
I leave my fortress walls behind
Protecting what is mine
Who knows what I might find beneath the thistles and the thorns?
Tell the minstrels tune their strings
There’ll be epics they can sing
We’ll have peace on earth again once I’ve done battle with the lawn.
CHORUS:
Spreading crabgrass, noxious weeds
Far as any eye can see
Dandelions threaten me but I’ll be brave and carry on
It’s a jungle there, it’s true
I’ll be careful what I do
‘Cause I’m coming back to you once I’ve done battle with the lawn.
BRIDGE:
When I’ve vanquished the invaders, I’ll collapse with my T.V.
There’s beer inside my castle, and my princess waits for me…
4.
I’m training me a squire
He needs to grow a little higher
But him and the mower already get along
Someday soon, I’ll get to rest
Knowin’ he was trained by the best
And I’ll be near so I can cheer when he does battle with the lawn.
CHORUS:
Spreading crabgrass, noxious weeds
Far as any eye can see
Dandelions threaten me but I’ll be brave and carry on
It’s a jungle there, it’s true
I’ll be careful what I do
‘Cause I’m coming back to you once I’ve done battle with the lawn.

As an old school troubadour at SC, yopu rank right up there with the best of ‘em Joe. And your humorous lyrical style is always sure to twist a smile out of the most tight fisted grimace. With cheeky lyrical wordsmith(ing) prowess like: “My machete by my side, Diesel mower, pesticide, The dog chewed my gauntlets but I still can get ‘em on With my trusty mower deck I will fearlessly attack Remember me if I don’t come back from doing battle with the lawn.” I’m put in mind of a weed-warrior version juxtaposed with “Big Rock Candy Mountain” and your dreamy search for rest as Jr. takes over the battle in the end, and you gets your reward on the sidelines. God Bless Ron
