Hooks
Every action demands reaction
Lose every distraction to realize my goal
This suspension demands attention
Perfect retention of my self control
Fear must be realized blood must be minimized
In pain I'll be baptized feeding my soul
My skin elastic my flight fantastic
I scream ecstatic "I am whole!"
These hooks that grip my skin demand much of what's within
To lift me above the skin, above the flood
Come watch my hanging here and come face your darkest fear
Come press your faces near to smell the blood
Come feel the hooks in you and come face the pain so true
Come let it lift you from the mud
We all have our pain to face, we all have our hooks in place
Let me teach you to embrace this sanguine love
It's not hooks that make me fly
But the hands that lift me high
This life horrific with sorrow prolific
So analytic and scrutinized
We're so acclimatized to being desensitized
So mesmerized by compromise
But it's friends who lift me, friends who will catch me
Their love that carries me, that let's me fly
These hooks that rend me these cables that suspend me
I will transcend these to feel alive!
It's not hooks that make me fly
But the hands that lift me high
It's the love they give to me
That make me break this gravity.
