Finally got a metronome. It's a tragic love story with a sheriff. It should be done by a male artist.
I'm not a band at all. It's just little ole me.
Story behind the song
This one should also be sung by a male artist. I love this one.I have no idea where it came from. I just channeled it while driving the mail. I have seen so many westerns. My husband really likes Marty Robbins. I really don't know what triggered the song (Get it Triggered.haha), but here it is.
Lyrics
The Ribbon
by Wendy Stagner ©July 9th 2008
1v.When Katie’s dad passed away
She had the farm and siblings to raise.
I had asked her dad before he died
If I could make her my bride.
So under a Harvest moon
She and I agreed to make it June.
2v.Big "T" was the sheriff in town
He never thought she would turn him down
He knew there was a note on the land
Katie was makin her stand.
“You’ll be sorry wait and see,”
“No one refuses Big “T”“
Pre-C-but that was then
Now I’m ridin to save my last breath
if you’d ask me if I regret what I did
No, I ‘d still pull the trigger and shoot the man
That took the life of this ribbon in my hand.
3v. I had been driven cattle
Months of knowin nothin ,but saddle
Their battle waged while I was away
Predator versus the prey
One day it came to a head
and My , dear , sweet Katie was found dead.
4v. It was me that found her there.
The ribbon had come loose from her hair
and the blood on her calico dress
showed she wasn’t just at rest.
I ached for the love I lost
I’d get even whatever the cost.
(Chorus/without pre-C)
5v. In my pocket was the bands
I put’em on the ribbon in my hand.
I heard a hammer being pulled back.
The odds against me were stacked.
Big “T” yelled, “Stay right there son.”
“Yeah, You’re gonna hang for what you done.”
Bridge:
He barely got the words out
before smoke rose from my gun.
He’ll for ever be payin
for the killin that he done.
( Chorus)
Tag- Tears roll as I look down at the rings on this ribbon and the life that was taken and the love that was given.
