Elisha Zaporelostzi's first performances were the Open Stages put on by the Bytown Live in Ottawa Ontario, Canada. It is how Neil Young and Joni Mitchell started. Phreap magazine is a one page thing that went around Ottawa in the 1980s. Now it is a web site; http://home.att.ne.jp/blue/patchan With the help of Joe-Charly Smith, Molly Ding, Calhoon-Fred Febealie, and Butter Jones I was able to put out Phreap magazine.

Story behind the song
'Golden Slumbers' comes from Elizabethan playwright Thomas Dekker (1570-1641). It first appeared in the play 'The Pleasant Comedy of Patient Grissill (1603)'. Paul McCartney came to the Golden Slumbers lyrics in a sheet music book at his father's house and it was put around that he made up his owne music since he could not read the music in the Booke. My version here is an alternative to the Beatles and is clearly in the public domain. The sheet music for my a version of this song is something that I copied at Ottawa U. in around 1981 and I did not note down where it came from. The sheet music does come from a series of song books (titled by colours) that was published around 1910 (give or take 30 years). It may have been called something like 'The Gray Book of Songs' and it may have been published by the University Of Toronto. The lyrics are a bit different from the original 400 year old ones and I do not know how faithful my source is to the music of 400 years ago.
Lyrics
I Will Sing A Lullaby (Golden Slumbers) 17th Century English Cradle Song - By Thomas Dekker from - Pleasant Comedy of Patient Grissill (1603) by Thomas Dekker Golden slumber kiss your eyes, Smiles await you when you rise. Sleep, pretty lov'd ones, Do not cry, And I will sing a lullaby, Lullaby, lullaby, lullaby. Care is heavy, therefore sleep, Father here safe watch will keep. Sleep, pretty lov'd ones, Do not cry, And I will sing a lullaby, Lullaby, lullaby, lullaby.

Hello Patrick! :) I saw your post on Haley's board, and came to listen out of curiosity..to answer your question, yes, there is a baby crying at around 1:30, BUT it sounds like it belongs there, so I wouldn't take it down for that. This was really sweet, Patrick, laid back, and it really sounds like a lullabye..I listened twice. :) Have a good one. Kindest regards, Tammy :D

Ah my friend, a very interesting and original song. I intend to listen to all of your songs, but I just had to comment on this one. A very nice arrangement that flows along with a catchy melody. Really enjoyed the video as well, what a lovely collection. My sincere and very best wishes, John.

Hi Patrick, Stumbled on this gem mentioned on another message board and I had to come by and hear it. I learned something. Fascinating history of the song. Also Because was written because John was listening to YOKO play a piano classical piece (God I hope she plays better than she screeches er sings). But he liked it and managed to invert the chords is how I have heard the story and thus came Because a real beautiful song. I also knew there was a girl claiming to be his daughter in germany. I think he did not admit paternity but did pay her something???

Neato Burrito. Funny, you don't look that old. We can't possibly have one older than 1605. Nice lyrics, guess we'll have to nick some o' them. ~Lesley
