Story behind the song
This is a song I wrote for a good friend of mine, but it seems like it fits many of us. Sadness and frustration mixed with hope.
Lyrics
The Clown Cries He stumbles to the mirror as he gets up before dawn, Gotta get up and go to work, gotta paint that big smile on, No one at the office knows what he's trying to hide, They'd never guess what's buried deep down inside, Cause he makes them all laugh with his antics, has them rolling all over the floor, They don't know he's dying for something more. And the clown cries, as he goes to sleep at night, Wishin' there was someone to hold him tight, And the tears fall, and they wash that smile away, The ache in his heart seems to be there to stay. She hears the baby cryin', it's time to get outta bed, Gotta get up and get goin' though she'd rather stay there instead, She puts her great big smile on, before she gets to the door, They don't know she wishin' there could be something more, She makes them all laugh at her stories, and she tickles them one by one, She never thought she'd have to raise them all on her own. Then she met someone that dried all her tears, Said he'd be with her all thru the years, He came to her with arms open wide, Promised only laughter on the other side! And the clown still cries as he tries to cope, But now he's thankful Jesus has given him hope, And when the tears fall, He washes them away, He helps him see the promise of a brand new day, So if a friend needs help and you know how they feel, See if you can help them find a smile that’s real.
