Story behind the song
During my recovery from drugs and alcohol in the fall of '96, I specifically wrote this lyric with Jonathan Dubose's guitar licks in mind. I faxed him the lyric and TWO YEARS LATER, we got to sit down and work on it!!
The tune for the opening four lines came to me in the shower, the first morning I was to travel to his home to work on the tune. We took those lines and, along with his 12 String, and constructed the basis of the song. The refrain at the close was written about an hour before the studio recording, several weeks later!
I really enjoyed the experience of working with Jonathan. We both move in the Spirit. I hired him to co-produce the entire second volume, in my Music for the Soul series, after this first experience.
