I'm an acoustic six-string and electric bass player/song writer. Producing meaningful, non-cliche lyrics is tough, but someone has to try to do it! If you're a lyric writer seeking melodies and like what you hear here, maybe we could work together.

Story behind the song
A true story - Henry Hughes existed, lost his leg in the aforementioned manner and hopped off to the fledgling USA... I was shown a photograph of the tombstone by my friend Graham, who told me the story of Henry's leg - and so was born a leg-end.
Lyrics
The Leg-end of Henry Hughes by Jim Costello ¾ time D G Hard by the poet – a hero of Wales D A Who sleeps in the earth, no more verses or tales Bm G Lies a leg complete with its foot and its nails – D A Henry Hughes, where’s the rest of you now? D G Left there by Henry when he sailed o’er the sea D A Left to bemuse and intrigue you and me Bm G A leg in a box ‘neath an ancient yew tree – D A Henry Hughes, where’s the rest of you now? D F#+ Bm The monks have departed; the ruins are bare G D A But in the churchyard just yonder, with solace and care Bm F# G Gm A headstone in slate was inscribed with its share – D A Henry Hughes, where’s…of you now? D F#+ Bm For all that remains of a life for who fame G D A Is this peaceful plot where the seasons proclaim Bm F# G That this leg was his – Henry’s leg is its name – D A D Henry Hughes, where’s the rest of you now? D G In the seventeen 50s, so the story it goes D A The accident happened to that leg and its toes Bm G In the farmyard they severed the limb and its woes – D A Henry Hughes, where’s…of you now? D G Henry he lived, though his cries rent the air D A In his pain and his suffering for his leg not being there. Bm G Be-stumped but not broken, the sea called him away – D A Henry Hughes, where’s…of you now? D F#+ Bm He boarded a ship to America’s shores G D A And was lost from our story to another man’s cause Bm F# G But part of him stayed in that churchyard in Wales – D A D Henry Hughes, where’s……of you now? D G Now the shadows are lengthening, the evening draws nigh D A The churchyard deserted, warm breeze whispers by Bm G The leg slumbers on ‘neath the darkening sky – D A Henry Hughes, where’s the rest of you now? D G What fortune befell you? What worst and what best? D A7 Your leg stayed behind when you sailed to the West Bm G
